Speaker will be Gabe Taylor from Disability Rights California
Gabe will discuss his role as DRC’s Voting Rights Advocate and the opportunities voters with disabilities have available for people wanting to become more engaged in the elections process in Southern California.
After moving out to California from New Mexico in 2008, Gabe Taylor began his advocacy career, working as a writer for a Social Security Disability firm, on behalf of clients applying for SSDI and SSI benefits. He spent five years in this position before transitioning into the non-profit world. Gabe then became the Systems Change Advocate for Rolling Start, Inc., serving San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono Counties. It was here where he found his true passion for advocacy, working for and collaborating with individuals with disabilities on a variety of access issues including housing, transportation, and voting. Last October, he joined Disability Rights California and the voting unit as their Voting Rights Advocate. In this position, he is focused on educating people on the importance of increased voting access and working to ensure this access for all persons with disabilities during this crucial election season.
Disability Rights California (formerly Protection and Advocacy Inc.) is a non-profit organization who works to advance dignity, equality, independence and freedom for all Californians with disabilities. We strive to provide the type of advocacy that is most effective in addressing the issues that impact individuals with disabilities. We reach out to under-served populations and strive to provide culturally appropriate services statewide.
